Michelle and Eric’s Engagement, downtown in austin, texas

Well, we wanted to experiment and try something new, and we had a couple who were willing to go out and have at it! We wanted to try a ‘dancing’ engagement session. The bride-to-be did such a great job of ‘hamming’ it up for the camera, and eventually, the groom-to-be broke out of his shell and followed pursuit!

We went downtown for this engagement session (or e-session) because some band from England called ‘The Rolling Stones" took our first choice at Zilker Park. So, we went got our satisfaction downtown. (Ok, I know, bad joke).

Anyway, we ran up and down 4th and 6th Street and had a fun time. We danced, we twirled, we patted horses, we did a couple of dips, and we dodged Roppolo’s Pizzeria.

We’ll see this lovely couple again in October ‘07.

Jessica and Conor’s Wedding, hamilton twelve in dripping springs, texas

We had a very emotional bride at our last wedding, and she was too cute! She cried a little during the ceremony and during the toast, and it was so beautiful. You could feel the excitement and joy. Her dress was very beautiful and elegant, too. They were a young couple and it was exciting to see them starting out their lives together for the first time.

The day started off at Jackson Ruiz Salon where we photographed the ladies getting their hair and makeup done (it’s a service that I think we are going to start including in our packages as an a la carte item). I then took a break to catch up on all of the latest college football scores and got something to eat. Even though I went to LSU and I am a big LSU fan, it was great to hear that UT beat Nebraska in the final moments.

We then headed on over to St Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church for the ceremony. Some things were running behind, so I was able to talk with the bride’s dad for a few minutes. He informed me that the bride graduated TOP of her class at UT a couple of years back! Wow – you go girl!

Well, the ceremony was nice, except Dad was so nervous that he forgot to kiss his daughter away when he gave her to the groom. No worry, we got some Dad’s kisses later.

We then headed off to the reception at Hamilton 12 for an outside nighttime reception and the weather was slightly cool and brisk and no rain! We had a blast there, too. I’ve never seen a reception where so many elderly people threw down (I’m trying to be politically correct here)! It was a lot of fun and people partied late.

Well, so far in our career, I thought that Vintage Villas had the best food in town, but I believe now that Hamilton 12 has this place beat in the ‘yummy’ factor. I’m not sure about the costs, though, so you will have to figure that out.

We made the cover of the next Austin Wedding Guide!

Wow!

We were completely blown away that we made the front cover of a magazine! We have won some contests here and there, but now we are published!

It will be out in January and it’s the Austin Wedding Guide. This magazine is distributed all throughout Austin and surrounding areas and can be picked up at various Bridal Salons (David’s Bridal, Belle Saison, etc.) and Venues (Kindred Oaks, Hamilton 12, Marriot in RR, Winfield Inn, Texas Old Town, etc.). The beautiful lady that is on the cover is Meredith Malcolm, daughter of Jerry and Penny Malcolm at 2nd Generations Video Productions at www.2vgp.com.

Stephanie and Todd’s Wedding, jean cochran center in round rock, texas

Yea! We are so far 0 and many for it NOT raining on our weddings! It drizzled before quite a bit, and the bride and groom were stressing because it was an outside wedding. But, I knew better! The rain stopped right before the ceremony and the sun came out afterwards. The rain did put a little crimp into our schedule, but we quickly got back on track.

Anyway, we had a fun time at the Jean Cochran Center. The wedding coordinator even showed some love to us and prepared us a plate of yummy Italian food! Mama Mia!

We had a beautiful ceremony on the outside courtyard and a fun reception in the clubhouse. We thought the wedding went perfect, and so did the Bride and Groom.

Air conditioning woes

Well, I knew it had to happen sooner or later. This isn’t photography-related, but a good lesson.

The house is falling apart!

Our air conditioning went out and my office TV that I have had since college (10 years ago) went out – all in 1 weekend! Anyway, I didn’t know who to call about air conditioning, so I called Fox since I see their truck in our neighborhood often. They came out and told me that my unit was going out and it was inefficient. I thought he was full of it – the unit is only 6 years old!

So, I went and got a second opinion. So, I then went onto Lennox’s website (a Lennox air conditioning system came with the house) and they recommended Airco. I called the company up, and they came out, fixed some wires that got shorted out due to condensation build-up from unequal pressurization of the freon line, and he even explained everything he did to me. THIS SAVED ME A LOT OF MONEY, even though Airco cost a bit more to come out on Sundays.

So, the moral of the story – unexperienced people want to charge you for something you don’t need and charge too much for it and they don’t want to spend the time trying to fix something if it’s broken. Unfortunately, I have heard this same notion about other photographers in town – not doing a great job and wanting you to spend a lot of money. I hope I never get this reputation.

Oh, on the TV front, I resisted temptation and did not splurge on a new LCD or plasma – I instead purchased a tube TV that will probably be out-of-date in a couple of years due to HDTV.

Well, we have a couple of weddings coming up, and we are very excited about them – Snowden/Taylor and Williams/Kelly.
